Remembrance Day

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

My thanks and respect on this day to everyone who has served their country and who continues to do so. I don't come from a military family but my cousin Alan lost a foot in the Falklands.

My husband is a former Marine and his brother Tim and his other brother's ex-wife have served.

No matter how I feel about the reasons that our men and women have been sent to war; on this day I shall respect and thank them.

Please join me in doing so.

Comments:
Amen! Lovely post and I too thank all that have served and continue to serve. Especially my father, brother and sister-in-law for their service in the Navy and now to my niece's husband who serves in the Air Force.

My husb. is a WWII veteran. I appreciate today's post. I told him "thank you" this morning and I meant it. And I say to you as well: Thank you.

Well said. My husband's military service was in the U. S. Coast Guard. Search and Rescue was his thing---saving lives, not taking them. I have great respect for all who serve without regard for their own safety, in whatever branch of the military, police or fire departments. Where would we be without them?

We miss you, duckie. Did you all have a good Christmas?
