Slipping In Under The Wire

Ack! I almost forgot to post on this, one of the most important days of the year.

I refer, of course, to Freddie Mercury Day.

(Yes, I know that some people are celebrating Victoria Day, but honey, you celebrate your dead queen and I'll celebrate mine, k?)

Mr. Mercury brought us joy, showmanship, and one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. The world is richer for his having joined us, albeit for far too short a time.

And so, Farrokh, I salute you. You did indeed rock us.

Rest in peace, dear.

Comments:
I love Freddie.

'You celebrate your dead queen...' - you are too freakin' funny!

Happy Freddie Mercury Day

Yes, the Queen days were dear to me. Thanks for the reminder. Candles for Freddie tonight.
LNE

Freddie was always my favourite Queen, and I remember the sadness I felt when he died. I saw him many times in concert, and am glad for every one of them.

Freddie was awesome. I think I'll cue up some Queen on my iTunes to entertain me as I catch up on blogs. Thanks for the reminder.

Let's hear it for the real queen,
Freddie...

Well done, Rabbitch. If there is any sort of afterlife, I hope Freddie knows how much we love, miss, and still enjoy him!

Oh, I am so glad you posted about this! I didn't know there was such a day, but have often thought there should be one. I'll see you your salute and raise you a rousing falsetto chorus of praise.

and he also sang "fat bottom girls, you make the rocking world go round"!

as a fat-bottom girl, I identify!

Your comment about dead queens made me choke. LOLOLOL

What a tragedy that he's gone.

thanks! i've now read more about freddie mercury than in all my past life combined -- no mean feat given that i spent decades as a features copy editor, a job that calls for keeping up with music from bubble gum to beethoven, among other things.

but then again, dear queen victoria was a knitter (per the yarn harlot's page-a-day calendar). was freddie?

Plus Freddie enabled a whole generation of teenaged suburban boys to feel smug and worldly due to the mistaken belief that Bohemian Rhapsody was a form of the opera.

Rest in peace indeed.

I love Freddy! Thank you for helping us remember him.

Let's lift a glass to Freddy! "Fat bottom girls" is my anthem (I get meaningful looks from my husband every time it comes on - in a good way, though, so it's all right...). :)

He was the champion...

I am with you!
He was the greatest!

I think this is a far better way to celebrate a long weekend than any long gone matriarch. Duly noted in calendar for next year!

Freddie inspired me to sing. It saddens me that it took his death for people to really appreciate him for the performer he was.

Freddie Mercury was (and always will be), incredible. I don't think I have ever heard anyone since that has sung as well (and as uniquely) as he did. He has definitely been missed all these years.

My God what a voice he had! Amen, bro!

Oh, FFS. I missed this???? My life is insane, and you've dropped off my F-ing Bloglines. FIXED now! But damnit, this is almost a month old, and OH HOW I LOVE(d) ME SOME FREDDIE-QUEEN. Think, even though it's late, that I will crank it in the car today on my way to work. That should maybe shake this rotten headache away? XO
