My Rules Which Are Mine And Belong To Me

OK, the yarn diet rules. And please remember that these rules are only for me, I'm not asking anyone else to play along, and really, it's a diet, not a fast. Don't we just cut down on a diet?

1. If there is money left after xmas I am going back to see if those two skeins of Sea Silk are still in the store because I want them badly. This is not a rule, and it'll be done in December, I just wanted to mention it because they were very sexy. I have no plans for them further than purchasing and fondling.

Which leads to:

2. I will do this for nine months, starting on January 1. However, I get one "that yarn is too damned sexy to leave in the store" card a month. Not cumulative. But people, I'm only human. And I'm also more likely NOT to buy something when I know I can.

3. Birthday yarn is exempt from all rules. I am turning 45 on January 21 and I'll buy whatever the fuck I want. Quite frankly the two or three stores I frequent, plus a couple of online places I plan on visiting, may not need to make another sale this year after the 21st.

4. Yarn I buy as a gift for someone (and which I actually send) or yarn that is sent to me as a gift, or won, is exempt. This does not mean I can send people money to buy yarn and send it to me because that's just stupid.

5. Books, needles, notions and any dyes or wool for dyeing and selling are exempt.

6. I'm not wearing any pants.

7. Spinning fibre is included. I have roving, locks, batts, sliver, bumps, bags, boxes and sacks of fleece and fibre everywhere. I can't have any more until the fall unless for some bizarre reason I manage to spin it all, knit it all, AND knit all of my stash before then (stop laughing, it could happen. In an alternate universe where there were ten of me and none of them had to work or do dishes or eat or bathe or anything like that).

8. If I fall off the wagon and don't make it, no kittens will die. I'll just not make it. No biggie. The whole purpose of this is to reduce some of the obscene stash I'm sitting on while people elsewhere are starving. Not that they could eat my stash, especially after I'd sat on it because that would just be gross and who wants pounds of wool tasting like bunniesnatch (see #6 above) but you know what I mean.

9. I shall endeavour to post pictures of my stash and chronicle what I'm doing with it. I may even manage to do some sort of inventory before the end of the month so we can see if this makes any difference at all. Because dudes, all that "flash your stash" stuff I've done over the years is only the tip of the iceberg.

10. I shall finish some objects. Finish. Not just make one sock or one mitten. Finish. There will be pictures.

11. If any yarn stores are driven into bankruptcy because of my wanton knitting of fibre I already own, I shall send them sammidges. Peanut butter. And I hate peanut butter.

That is all.

Unless I think of something else later.

Comments:
I just left your previous post to find said nasty comment and you posted another! Are you speeding today? In light of your new post, I make the following proposition: If any yarn store goes out of business because a collective few go on a yarn diet, I say we do what you said. Send them a sammich. We can collect them from kind hearted bloggers.

This is a nice plan. I doubt I'll participate, just cuz as soon as you tell me I gotta knit the gorgeous stuff I already have, someone will tell me about the gorgeous stuff they have that I need. (Need being the middle-class American definition of the term, ie, want really bad right now)
Rule #6 is my fave. No pants in 2007! Good thing we can wear them again in the fall, it will be too cool to wander around naked.

Oh, bad, bad stupid Blogger.
I think it's okay to reiterate my support for rule 6, though.

I think your bunniesnatch is going to get mighty cold with no pants covering it for 9 months!

ok i really don't want your bunniesnatch to be the last visual i have ... no disrespect to your bunniesnatch of course.

please wrap yourself with a towel at least.

i'm on a yarn diet and have been for over a month now (buying yarn from helloyarn the other day doesn't count because i haven't opened it yet although i will probably open it today because it's my birthday) and i can attest that no yarn shops in my local shopping area have gone out of business in the past month.

and if they have, it's not because i am on a yarn diet, but because they're rude or have sucky yarn and no one shops there anyway.

I'm still giggling about the last post where you said you might have to glue the yarn to your husband, rather than knit the sweater. heehee.

Rule #6 really sums it all up, doesn't it?

Before you do anything drastic..have you checked out the new YS on Main St. (around 25th) called Three Bags Full? Now there's a place to go on your birthday bender! http://www.threebagsfull.ca/

Now that's a thought.. "Bare Assed Knitters 2007".. hee hee!

Is this the time to tell you that apparently one of the shops you frequent has opened a store in North Van (Edgemont Village)?

I will be going thru my stash as soon as the mood to get it organized hits me, and I am sure there's yarn in ther destined for your hat drive.

Please help me!

I'm trying to 'embrace' this little dealie but, can I? I think so....working on my rules, I'll get back to you. But, if I start emailing you with long-winded, drunken sagas of my yarn deprival -be gentle, kay?

Naked bunniesnatches! Put yo' pants on gurl and get knittin'!

I, too, am embracing the diet (and a real one, too) as of Jan 1. Until then, I can eat or order whatever the hell strikes my fancy (and I can fancy ALOT) Nine months without a trip to ye local yarn shoppe? They'll definitely fold! :=)

I must be a lemming, because part of me really, really wants to join too. I mean, all the kool kids are doing it! But if I look deep into my heart, I come to the honest realization that my need to join the yarn diet is rooted in my embarassment at the appalling sparseness of my stash. I don't want to admit that it's that paltry. I just haven't been at this knitting thing (hardcore) long enough to have accumulated a stash large enough to need a diet. I'm "underweight," if anything.

But I can support all of you in your own dieting attempts. During the next 9 months, I will make many sacrifices in my valiant efforts to keep our local yarn stores in business, so they are still there for you when you come out the other side.

No, really, you don't have to thank me. I know you'd do the same....

I tried to find the comment to which you referred and I couldn't find it. But I don't need to see it to go along with the idea... I have way too much yarn. I'll change the rules to suit me as well... I'm not sure I'll have rules that refer to pants, but hey, to each her own.

Very funny =) Bunny snatch - heh. Welcome to the knit-from-your-stash group! I'm looking forward to reading what everyone will be knitting up. I'm wishing I had enough knowledge to put one of those buttons on my blog, though...

Ah-ha! The "abbondanza" described in #7 explains why you were able to arrive at TMK's house with very short notice this summer with handspun gifts for everyone. We were very impressed.

love #6!

2007, The Year Without Pants

rabbitch, you and wendy inspired me to do a major stash organization today. all the stuff that was still lurking in stores' bags, where i couldn't see it, now is in see-through bags -- mostly those in which my daily newspaper hits the lawn -- and inventoried by fiber content, weight, color and yardage. where i could recall my original plan for each, a note has been made of its purpose. (as for the others, i'm suffering yarn-nesia, but i know i'll find good use for it all.)

and like a good yarnaholic, i went on a bender at my lys today. but i'm starting my "diet" at the new year . . . and as soon as i finish one last christmas gift, i'm starting The Year of Me First. i'll work from stash, natch. nice, fresh-from-the-lys stash, that is!

i've made myself nothing for months while completing gifts, bartered items and a bunch of goodies for a battered women's shelter. i've got multiple charity projects planned and/or on needles. but i'm making two swatchies for a cardi in such a way that the swatches can become pockets . . . just as soon as i finish the seemingly endless scarf.

happy new knitting year to all!

p.s. -- hope this doesn't post twice . . .

Inspiring!

Ooh ooh, what color of sea silk? I have successfully Resisted The Urge up until now but there are so many pretty colors. Mmmm, sea silk.

"Twat".....I can think of a different word......

Anyway. What about all those knitters out there that don't even have computers and will probably never hear about the Knit from Your Stash Movement? Idiot.
